Playerunknown Battleground

Reading an interview with Playerunknown Battlegrounds creator Brendan Greene. What's with all the hype about this game? Why so popular? I have yet to play it, btw so it's not a critique so much as curiosity.

Wondering why a game is popular is the perfect reason to get clams casino!

It's popular pretty much because of streamers, the devs mentioned this once somewhere.

quote; "Why so popular?"
I wonder why as well! The game is Modded-version of ARMA (the best military-simulator we have for PC, probably). I played ARMA 1 to 3, and I can see, this PUBG looks very similar to ARMA. This is not an MMO, but another online-shooter-lobby that has a skill-based-leaderboard. It works by "Matches", so it's a shooter-lobby like Counter Strike. It works by parachuting-down all the players, and these players will go houses-to-houses to try to find better gears/weapons and go head-to-head with each other to the last person standing. That last person wins. Really though, it's the leaderboard that people cares about, it can publicly be seen, and you can compare yours with other people's. Leaderboard is skill-based like CoD and Halo.

This is not my type of game, hence, I'm not hyped. But in SEA, this game is also popular along with DOTA 2 (DOTA 2 is the most popular). In EA, they do not play this since they have better stuff. Oh, almost all the Chinese I know, generally, most Chinese, play that LoL(League of Legend).

MOBAs and Online-Lobbies for Strategy and Shooter seems to have the most players, than MMOs. In reality, that's how it is. Also, in Asia, most people there would rather play in Cyber-Cafe because you get to meet people and computer there is good. If you are to go there right now, you'll see these are the type most of them play, if you are to look at their screens. Probably because of that social-aspect and lack of commitment for MMO.

Everyone has their own cup of tea. Me? I'm in to MMOs.

If you are gonna ask me how this game succeeded; Because it's from ARMA! This person just modded it and turned it to a Counter Strike or CSGO. ARMA is offline and it's a simulator. This idea(although it's a rip-off), along with the fact that Online-Lobby-Shooter being the most popular, made him successful in sales. This is the reason.
