The fact is, collectors invest in hardware. Gamers do not do that, they invest on the game itself and only see the hardware as a utility to run the game. Their marketing-target here are the collectors, obviously. It's a marketing-strategy for them to create many editions of this handheld-console as they know it will boost their sales. Collectors are likely to buy them even though they already have a 2DS-XL. In the company's perspective, they have a pretty good marketing-strategy (as it brings the company more money). Consumers are buying in to it.
I will be getting rigatoni with onions, prosciutto, tomatoes, and parmigiana cheese!
