I sunk a little bit of time into last night, so here are my first impressions.
Character customization is super important to me, I love fiddling around and adjusting my character until I get the perfect look - Revelation Online definitely doesn't disappoint when it comes to this. The options are in-depth, and there is no gender-locked classes, so you can really make your character your own.
The tutorial area appears to be single player (at least, I assume it is. I made a character with my fiancé and we couldn't see each other until we reached the first major town), and it takes you through the basics of the games combat system, flying, dodging, gliding, etc.
There are three different styles of controls which I found really cool! You can pick between traditional MMO point-and-click movement and tab to target controls, Action Combat style, or a sort of hybrid in between. Personally, I'm sticking with action combat - it feels the most immersive and is definitely the most fun to play.
I've gone with Swordmage, but don't let the sword part fool you, it appears to be a pretty standard ranged magic character. So far levelling has been fairly quick and straight forward doing the main tutorial quests. I'll elaborate more on gameplay in my next post after I've put some more hours into it.

@benevolentia I am also a Healer myself. To keep my party alive, yes, you must use Tab-targetting to target your Teammate. It is easier that way. If you have any further question, don't hesitate to PM, I am at current end-game myself. They will raise the level-cap to 79 within months, they are just working on localizing and preparing it. I have been playing this game since the first-Closed-BETA, I'm fluent in Chinese, and I am experienced in this game. My advice is to just know what you are supposed to do. I already pointed to you some advice, Blueprint your Gears at 49 because they are way more cheaper and less time-consuming. you have to catch-up, that is your goal. Use your connections with your guild to get carried on your Expert-Dungeons for your Demonslayer. Personally, with no other diversion, I can get to 59 within 2 weeks with full gold-Gear. (with the current situation now, and the deflation of 59-below-stuff) I just know how to do it. This game is hard to understand for new-players, but just try to cope with it. Use this game as a filler game, then we will move to Bless, including I. there is no good-games to play right now, except for Black-Desert. You you will also die for Black Desert, trust me.
@EternalMemory - Games can't rely on end-game content being the only enjoyable component though. To gain new players you need to have an engaging experience available for ALL levels, including those still leveling up through the beginner to intermediate areas.
If my enjoyment of the game is being hindered because I'm not high enough level, then that's a problem in itself. TERA, for example, is a 10/10 experience from start to finish. The lower and mid-level dungeons are always bustling and instance matching never takes longer than 5-10 minutes.
We're not giving up though, we are still playing and will progress further and work on obtaining better gear for the later dungeons / instances - but that doesn't prevent our frustration at not being able to really play together during this time putting a damper on the entire experience.
Yep! I've stuck to action combat. I tried the other controls but it was not as natural feeling and seemed like a lot more work! I'll stick to action combat definitely, thanks for the advice
What controls should a healing character use? Is action combat not a good choice for them?
Right! Go with Action-Combat, that is the best Setup for Swordmage! I can send you pics of my Settings (since I'm Maining a Swordmage as well) through request if ever needed. The other 2 Controls, don't use them ever. Tab-targetting requires more work compare to just flinging the mouse on Action-Combat to change Camera-View. (you actually have to click with Tab-targetting) I also play a Spiritshaper in this game(I doubt you do) and that is the only instance that you will use this kind of control(Tab-targetting) for efficiency. My Occultist is pure-DPS with no Stat-Pages, so I don't use Healing. Anything but Healing = go with Action-Combat, it is just more efficient.
Only way you can experience this game(including social-aspects that includes doing dungeons together) is by progressing to higher-levels, getting proper-gears. and improve your playstyle. You cannot actually party with the majority(whom are higher level than you); first, you do not meet the requirement on Instances that they actually need, second, you will just get carried(only reason they will do, is to recieve merits, that's it), and last, it's about teamwork to get the job done, what can you contribute with your current-gears and level, and even more, playstyle? like i said, progress is what you need to see through this game. You will not experience it with this kind of level and Gears.
And don't worry, My.com will put better cosmetics in this future. The one we have right now, is sht. That is why my cosmetics is currently crap, I'm just waiting for them to Update the CS and I will make my character look better. to progress, really, you gonna have to put more dedication than "a bit". this is the same for any MMO like Black Desert. Your progress is the thing that is hindering your overall-experience regarding this game.
